About Julie

Julie Oswin is the founder of Vision Media (Est 2010).  An adept artist and creator, she has been a professional photographer for more than 20 years, a trainer and mentor.  Her flair for design earned her a position in 2014 as Designer and Editor of Creative Light Magazine, the official magazine of the Guild of Photographers.

As an album designer, Julie started out designing her wedding albums by hand in 1999 using Jorgensen of Australia.  Ever the perfectionist, she drew diagrams to illustrate precisely how mounts should be cut to ensure every product with her name on it passed her rigorous standards.  Over the years, Julie moved to solely digital album design, and along the way, over several years, she mastered web development combining those skills with her artistic eye to design beautiful, easy-to-use websites.

“… loved the way Julie  ‘interviewed’ me as she does for Creative Light magazine!  I didn’t have to spend ages writing content for her for my new website  “something, I feel, is daunting and hate doing”.

Published work by Julie Oswin

The Editor

April 2014 the Directors of The Guild of Photographers, Steve & Lesley Thirsk commissioned Julie to launch the Guild of Photographers first magazine, Creative Light.   Five years later, 34 editions have been published.  It has been a great journey for Julie showcasing the excellent photography of the Guild members, watching and documenting their success through the Guild’s IOM (Image of the Month) competition, their annual awards and qualifications.

Every edition reaches thousands of people interested in the craft of photography.  Since the launch the editions have been viewed over two million times!

Contemporary Wedding Photography

Wedding photography has changed considerably since the explosion of digital cameras became financially accessible to photographers with the launch of the Fuji S1 and Nikon D100 (both 6mb) in 2001.

Book Illustrator and Publisher, Angie Patchell asked Julie to write a book on her wedding photography.  After several months the concept was finally completed.  During 2006, Angie published two books on wedding photography Julie’s and the second was a book by documentary wedding  photographer Morag MacDonald.   Both books are now over 15 years old, technically out of date, but they still contain useful and comprehensive tips, checklists and tried-and-tested working formulas.

My Website – Review

“Not being clear on the actual needs of my training website made it very difficult to write down what I needed, but after the first call with Julie, I was confident she knew exactly what was required and soon started the process.  Loved the way she ‘interviewed’ me as she does for Creative Light magazine so that I didn’t have to spend ages writing content for her – “something, I feel, is daunting and hate doing”.   Knowing what questions to ask me for the relevant information for each page of my website made it much more comfortable than my initial fears, and, enabled me to get the right information across.

With a fresh design, personalised for me with Julie’s attention to every detail, I am thrilled with both of my two websites.    Highly recommended”
